AccessTEFL teacher training

An accessible, on-the job teacher training programme

The English UK AccessTEFL programme has been designed to enable individuals from any background to quickly gain the skills needed to start teaching. The initial stages can be completed around existing commitments while the final stage can be completed while undertaking a paid, part or full time teaching contract at St Brelade’s College.

AccessTEFL is awarded and certificated by English UK and accepted by Accreditation UK as a qualification suitable for working in British Council accredited centres. Portfolios are moderated and approved by NILE. Download course information.

St Brelade’s College offers international students of all ages an opportunity to learn English, take part in a range of cultural and sporting activities and stay in a local homestay or one of our student residences. We are the only provider in the Channel Islands accredited by the British Council for the provision of English language courses and have been operating in Jersey for over 45 years.

Every year we recruit new TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teachers for our busy summer school when we have up to 150 young students studying with us.

Our AccessTEFL programme is open to anyone with a Level 3 qualification, such as GCE A-levels, advanced apprenticeship, or an international equivalent. For non-native speakers, evidence of a CEFR C1 level of English is required. Trainees must be able to commit to complete one week of full-time training (30 hours), a further series of observations & teaching practice plus a 6 week part or full time contract at our junior summer school.
