Private English tuition

One-to-one English lessons for dedicated English learners

If you have a specific English requirement or are simply looking to improve your English quickly, private tuition is the ideal choice. Our teachers will discuss your needs with you at the start of the course and will tailor the lesson plan to this, making sure that you get the most from your tuition.

English course facts

  • English lessons per week: 15 or 22.5 hours. In low season 7.5 hours English tuition is also possible.
  • Social programme: In high season, two excursions are included per week for courses of 1-3 weeks, with transport included. Subsequent weeks do not include excursions. A weekly pub evening and dinner at a local restaurant (food & drinks not included, students should expect to pay approximately £20-£25 for the dinner). In low season, no social programme is included.
  • Courses start: Every Monday, from 6th January - 19th December 2025
  • Course duration: 1-50 weeks
  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Minimum level of English: Beginner
  • Maximum class size: 1 student

High season: 31st March – 24th October 2025
Low season: 4th November – 20th December 2024, 6th January – 28th March 2025, 27th October – 19th December 2025

TIMETABLE

MORNING ENGLISH LESSONS

Monday-Friday: 9:00-12:30 with a 30 minute break (15 & 22.5 hour courses)

AFTERNOON ENGLISH LESSONS

Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday: 13:30-15:40 with a 10 minute break (22.5 hour course)

SAMPLE SOCIAL PROGRAMME (high season only)

Monday 13:30-16:15: A visit to one of Jersey’s castles, heritage sights or museums, such as Mont Orgueil castle
17:00-19:00 Drinks at a local pub
Thursday 19:00-21:30: Dinner at a pub or restaurant
Friday 14:30-16:15: A coastal or inland walk, allowing you to take in some of Jersey’s most beautiful sights

Please note: If we are required to cancel an activity or excursion due to bad weather or another unavoidable reason, it will be replaced with another typical activity from our programme.

Travel documentation

A passport is required for all visitors to Jersey. You should ensure there is sufficient validity on your passport to cover your trip.

Visitors coming to Jersey via UK will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from April 2025. Visitors coming directly to Jersey from the E.U. will not need an ETA until late 2025.

You should check the travel requirements with your travel agent or airline / ferry operator.

Payment terms & conditions

Once your course has been confirmed you will need to pay a deposit of £200. At least 4 weeks before the course starts you will need to pay the remainder of the course fee. St Brelade’s College reserves the right to refuse to provide services to students if the course fees have not been paid.

CANCELLATION FEE

22+ days notice: £200 deposit
8 – 21 days notice: 1 week (tuition & homestay/residence fees) + £200 deposit
1 – 7 days notice: Full fee payable (tuition & homestay/residence fees)
Separate cancellation fees apply to private accommodation. Please refer to the individual hotel terms.

Course fee refunds are made in £GBP to the same card or account used to make the original payment. St Brelade's College accepts no responsibility for any difference in the final amount received due to changes in the underlying exchange rate.

INSURANCE

We strongly advise students to take out insurance at the time of booking the trip. This should ensure cover if the student needs to cancel the course before departure or during their stay due to factors such as illness (e.g. Covid-19), emergency medical expenses, travel costs and personal belongings etc. Special insurance for language course students can be purchased from some insurance providers.

VISA STUDENTS

Students must pay at least 25% deposit in advance and the balance at least 4 weeks before arrival. In the event that the application is unsuccessful the deposit is returned less a £100 administration fee.
