English & walking course

Learn English and discover Jersey's beautiful coastline on our English and walking course

From the rocky cliffs of the north to the moonscapes of the east, you will be surprised at the diversity of landscapes you will find on such a small island.

On our English & walking course, you will spend mornings learning English at school, followed by coastal and inland walks taken by teachers and activity staff who will provide you with a greater understanding of the island and its ecosystems.

English course facts

  • English lessons per week: 15 hours per week
  • Social programme: Each week, there are three afternoon walks and a visit to a heritage site, a pub evening & dinner at a local restaurant, plus at the weekend there is a full day guided walk (food & drinks not included at the pub/restaurant). One week courses do not include the full day guided walk.
  • Courses start: 12th – 23rd May, 8th – 19th September 2025
  • Course duration: 1 or 2 weeks
  • Minimum age: 18 years
  • Minimum level of English: Elementary
  • Maximum class size: 10 students
  • Walk difficulty: Easy to moderate (1-4 hours)
  • Equipment: Walking boots and waterproof clothing advised

Please note: If we are required to cancel an activity or excursion due to bad weather or another unavoidable reason, it will be replaced with another typical activity from our programme.

MORNING ENGLISH LESSONS

Monday-Friday: 9:00-12:30 with a 30 minute break

SAMPLE SOCIAL PROGRAMME (WEEKS 1 & 2)

Monday 13:30-16:15: A visit to one of Jersey’s castles or heritage sights, such as Mont Orgueil castle
Tuesday 13:30-16:15: A west coast heritage walk / inland countryside walk
Wednesday 13:30-16:15: An east coast ‘moonscape’ walk / town tour
17:00-19:00 Drinks at a local pub
Thursday 19:00-21:30: Dinner at a pub or restaurant
Friday 14:30-16:15: A north coast cliff walk / south coast walk exploring secluded bays
Sunday at the end of week 1: 11:00-16:00: Guided walk around the striking north east coastline

Travel documentation

A passport is required for all visitors to Jersey. You should ensure there is sufficient validity on your passport to cover your trip.

Visitors coming to Jersey via UK will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) from April 2025. Visitors coming directly to Jersey from the E.U. will not need an ETA until late 2025.

You should check the travel requirements with your travel agent or airline / ferry operator.

Payment terms & conditions

Once your course has been confirmed you will need to pay a deposit of £200. At least 4 weeks before the course starts you will need to pay the remainder of the course fee. St Brelade’s College reserves the right to refuse to provide services to students if the course fees have not been paid.

CANCELLATION FEE

22+ days notice: £200 deposit
8 – 21 days notice: 1 week (tuition & homestay/residence fees) + £200 deposit
1 – 7 days notice: Full fee payable (tuition & homestay/residence fees)
Separate cancellation fees apply to private accommodation. Please refer to the individual hotel terms.

Course fee refunds are made in £GBP to the same card or account used to make the original payment. St Brelade's College accepts no responsibility for any difference in the final amount received due to changes in the underlying exchange rate.

INSURANCE

We strongly advise students to take out insurance at the time of booking the trip. This should ensure cover if the student needs to cancel the course before departure or during their stay due to factors such as illness (e.g. Covid-19), emergency medical expenses, travel costs and personal belongings etc. Special insurance for language course students can be purchased from some insurance providers.

VISA STUDENTS

Students must pay at least 25% deposit in advance and the balance at least 4 weeks before arrival. In the event that the application is unsuccessful the deposit is returned less a £100 administration fee.
