Thank you very much for last week in Jersey when we stayed with you in your house. It really was an excellent week that I will never forget. I hope you guys liked it too because I did. You are very kind and broad. There were lots of funny moments and I hope there will always be a good atmosphere in your house and family. I think we had one of the best host families we could ever get and I’m glad I’ve got to know you.
We had a great time with Mathais who left today. He hardly spoke a word of English on arrival but he has made great strides forward and worked hard doing his homework. We had lots of laughs and after he left I found a row of chocolate ladybirds in his room. Last night he gave me flowers and 2 bottles of wine – most kind. He called a shoe horn a shoe spoon which seemed to make sense.
By the end of the summer, we hosted for 11 weeks back-to-back and although it was tiring at times, it was really rewarding. Some of the students sent us Christmas cards. We’ve put the money we earned towards a holiday and some garden toys for the boys – with a young family any extra money always comes in handy!
The students were excellent – they really brightened up the home and discussing the different cultures was very informative. There are many that will stay in our memory.
Enjoyable experiences last year included taking two German music students to a concert of instrumental service students which they really loved. The students wrote to us and sent presents for everyone after they got home.
It was great to hear the students all chatting in the lounge about their experiences together and how much they were loving the whole experience.
Really good to see the students learning and interacting with our children.
